Usher is suffering from a physical and psychological illness and hopes his friend’s presence will help him recover. The narrator has not seen Usher in years and is somewhat perplexed by the letter, nevertheless, he decides to honor his friend’s request. The decline of the Usher family is also foreshadowed in the story. Roderick Usher prophecies his death to the narrator in the manner it really occurs.

We replaced and screwed down the lid, and, having secured the door of iron, made our way, with toil, into the scarcely less gloomy apartments of the upper portion of the house. ‘The Fall of the House of Usher’ is an 1839 short story by Edgar Allan Poe ( ), a pioneer of the short story and a writer who arguably unleashed the full psychological potential of the Gothic horror genre. The story concerns the narrator’s visit to a strange mansion owned by his childhood friend, who is behaving increasingly oddly as he and his twin sister dwell within the ‘melancholy’ atmosphere of the house.

Julius says no, but he is worried because he hasn’t seen Pluto in a while and fears she got out into the night. Madeline tells Roderick that it’s beneficial to them for Roderick to stay there, to get beside Griswold and later stab him in the back. Annabel overhears Madeline’s disturbing speech to Roderick and later tells him she really does not like his sister.

This ambiguity sets the plot of the story that vague the real and the fantastic. Roderick contacted him when he was suffering from emotional and mental distress. He does not know much about the house of Usher and is the first outsider to visit the house in many years. The narrator has visited the house because Roderick Usher has sent him a letter that sincerely asks him to give him company.

Madeline would have to die with him as well, as they came into the world together so they have to go out the same. Frederick heads to the building where Perry hosted the party with a crew of guys who are going to tear it down. He asks them to give him a minute while he goes to take care of something inside, and when he walks in he starts doing more cocaine. She tells him that he’s actually snorted the nightshade paralytic that he’s been giving Morrie. She previously made him mix up the two substances without him knowing. As he’s on the floor and unable to get up, Morrie takes out a walkie-talkie, puts on Frederick’s voice, and tells the crew they’re good to bulldoze the building.

Tammy is fed up with Bill, believing he must’ve slept with the mysterious woman who keeps showing up in the background of his livestream videos. Background of the Story
The narrator then runs from the house, and, as he does, he notices a flash of moonlight behind him. He turns back in time to see the Moon shining through the suddenly widened crack in the house. As he watches, the House of Usher splits in two and the fragments sink away into the lake. The narrator is impressed with Roderick's paintings and attempts to cheer him by reading with him and listening to his improvised musical compositions on the guitar. Roderick sings "The Haunted Palace", then tells the narrator that he believes the house he lives in to be alive, and that this sentience arises from the arrangement of the masonry and vegetation surrounding it.
In the days that follow, the narrator starts to feel more uneasy in the house, and attributes his nervousness to the gloomy furniture in the room where he sleeps. The narrator begins to suspect that Roderick is harbouring some dark secret. Within a few hours of the narrator’s arrival, Roderick begins to share some of his theories about his family. Much to the narrator’s surprise, Roderick claims that the Usher mansion is sentient and that it exercises some degree of control over its inhabitants.
Its windows are described as “eye-like,” and its interior is compared to a living body. On the other hand, there are plenty of strange things about the Usher family. For one, “the entire family lay in the direct line of descent,” meaning that only one son from each generation survived and reproduced. Poe implies incestuous relations sustained the genetic line and that Roderick and Madeline are the products of extensive intermarriage within the Usher family.
Meanwhile, Jill becomes intimate with Rick and tells him she has missed her period. In the meantime, Jill has discovered that the Usher family has practiced twincest for the past five or six generations, right down to Maddy and Rick. All the prior generations had twins, who later became a couple and birthed twins of their own and so on down the line to Maddy and Rick, who were to continue the Usher curse. His behavior becomes even more erratic and distracted, and it begins to affect the narrator’s own mental state. One stormy night, the narrator cannot sleep and begins to have inexplicable feelings of terror.
